I feel I need to make it clear that ShackQuakeLive is not affiliated with iD software and we are in fact not playing QuakeLive nor testing it, etc. The site was created for the members of www.shacknews.com to play Quake 3 on so we can regain our lost (or in my case, total absence of) playing skills in anticipation of QuakeLive. So no, we are not playing QuakeLive and have no more information on it than anyone else out there.

So please stop pestering iD about it :)

Fayk has kindly pointed out that the current Threewave installer was an .exe file. He has unpacked and zipped the files so that Linux or Mac users using the ioQuake client can easily install the necessary files.

At one time last night we had 18 people on the server, just shy of maxing it out! Much fun was had by all and a few things stood out that needed to be resolved.

I’ve set all the DM maps to be only playable in DM modes. This is the same thing I did for the CTF maps and I did it because people unfamiliar with some maps were still choosing DM maps for CTF and that didn’t work well.

DM gametype has been set back to NORMAL as opposed to Lithium.

The Random portal has been removed after causing some weird issues. Besides, it was lazy anyway.

Some people are talking about doing a different “theme” on certain nights instead of the Portal every night. So we might have a night dedicated to only DM with a set map rotation, etc. But I’m still thinking about it.

I’ve tweaked things so that teams are now balanced by skill ranking. This makes sure one team isn’t overloaded with talent while the other team suffers. At the end of each game, teams may be balanced by the individual players skill ranking.

Death Match gamers will have a surprise in store tonight as DM is now running in Lithium Mode. This might leave some people, especially those who time everything and like things in set places with no fluff,  discombobulated. It’s just for Friday night unless everyone wants to keep it, so don’t panic.
